CIPTA AWARDS for Indonesia’s Best “Green” Tourism Destination Managements

The Tanjung Puting Orang Utan National Park in Central Kalimantan, the Elephant Safari Park in Bali and the Rinjani Trek in

Lombok, West Nusatenggara, were awarded the coveted Cipta Awards for Indonesia’s best managed and “green” destination areas.

These were selected among 15 nominees each for the categories of areas managed by government agencies, the private sector, and individuals or non-governmental agencies respectively.

The awards were handed by Minister for Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, at a special gala dinner on 4 November at the JW.

Marriott in Jakarta, witnessed by Director General for Tourism Destination Development, Firmansyah Rahim, and invitees.

In second and third place for government agency-managed destinations are: Tanah Lot, Bali and the Iboih Sea Gardens around

Weh Island in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

Winners in second and third place for private sector managed destinations went to: the Amanwana Resort at Pulau Moyo, in

Nusa Tenggara Barat, and the Pasir Mukti Tourist Park in West Java.

While second and third place winners in the individually, or non-governmental agency-managed destinations went to: Sangeh

Monkey Forest in Bali and the Turtle Conservation area in the Derawan Archipelago, East Kalimantan .

The government has for the first time this year given the Cipta “Green” Awards to the private sector, public sector and

individual or non-governmental agencies as recognition of, and to boost sustainable tourism management in Indonesia’s

widespread destinations areas.
